Cognitive Enhancement Therapy, otherwise known as CET for short, is a new form of treatment designed to improve a person's cognitive function. This treatment may be used in the context of individuals who are suffering from cognitive impairment and/or those who want to stay sharp and active throughout their life.
CET is currently being developed as it is predicted that people will be living longer than ever before. The "aging" branch of technology will become more prevalent which makes it clear that there's a rising need for an effective way to maintain your mental faculties as you age. This blog post reveals some awesome things about how this therapy works!
Start with an introduction sentence and then continue onto explaining what Cognitive Enhancement Therapy is like. CET is a form of psychotherapy that assists in cognitive function through a series of steps. The first step is an educational phase, where the therapist will teach clients about their cognitive strengths and weaknesses. After the client has learned about their own cognitions, they will develop strategies for improving their cognition. Next comes the action phase, where the client can choose to either improve their cognitive skills or compensate for what they have been taught is lacking in their cognition. Lastly, comes the review phase, where techniques and information that were learned will be reviewed with the intent of keeping them fresh in your mind.
You might want to go into more detail on each "phase" here by just saying what it entails and when it begins/ends.
CET is designed to help improve your overall cognitive function, but it's not limited to just this. The therapy can also help with the following:
· Depression and anxiety
· Learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders (ADD/ADHD)
· Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of TBI.
· Personality disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Bipolar Disorder, etc. In these cases, CET is used as a supplement to traditional treatment. It is not meant to be used as a replacement for regular treatment that would be given in these cases.
· The level of cognitive functioning that a person has is dependent on many conditions. These conditions include heredity, age and lifestyle. Cognitive Enhancement therapy will have little effect even if your condition is "normal", as it can make no difference whatsoever in the overall functioning of your cognition.
· It's not limited to just adults; it could also be used with children and teenagers as well.
· Cognitive Enhancement therapy can be used with: Adults, Children, Adolescents, and Seniors.
